This variety is one of the most recognisable Australian mangoes, known for its large round form and striking orange skin with a red blush. First developed in Queensland in the 1980s through a breeding program selecting improved mango cultivars, the name R2E2 originally referred to the experimental row and tree position where the variety was first identified. It later became one of Australia’s most commercially important mango varieties. Inside, the flesh is bright orange with moderate fibre and a sweet, mellow tropical flavour. R2E2 mangoes are valued for their impressive size, vibrant colour and reliable sweetness. This is one of the largest mango varieties, with individual fruits commonly weighing 800 g to 1.5 kg, and occasionally even larger under ideal growing conditions.
