A modern design with a traditional twist, the Mexicano Contemporary pairs clean lines with the strength and character of solid oak. It's a door that makes an entrance and stands up to years of daily use. About the Mexicano Contemporary External Oak Door Traditional methods of construction combined with premium solid oak make the Contemporary External Door a popular choice that's built to last. The middle oak panel floats fully within the frame, free to move naturally with the timber, so the door stays true through the seasons and will last a lifetime and more. 100% prime A-grade solid oak This door is made from 100% prime A-grade solid oak, the highest grade of oak we use. Prime grade means cleaner, more consistent timber with the tight, even grain and warm natural colour oak is loved for, and far fewer of the knots and marks found in lower grades. It's real, solid oak throughout rather than a veneer over a manufactured core, so every door carries the natural variation and depth that only genuine timber can, and no two are exactly alike. The true beauty of solid oak really shines in this series. Mortice and tenon joinery Every corner is built with traditional mortice and tenon joints, with no dowels and no shortcuts. It's one of the oldest ways of making a door and still one of the strongest: the tenon locks deep into the mortice for a rigid, interlocking joint that resists the twisting and sagging an external door faces over the years. Together with the floating centre panel, it's a construction designed to keep the door square, solid and working perfectly for decades. The doors are supplied sanded but unfinished, ready for you to seal in the finish that best suits your home. Glazing The Contemporary's glazed section brings plenty of daylight into your entrance hall, and because it's supplied unglazed the glazing is yours to personalise. Choose a glass style to suit your home, from clear to obscured or something more decorative. The glazing aperture is approximately 1621 x 140mm; this is a guide based on the visible pane, so please confirm the exact size once your door has arrived before ordering your glass. Reversible handing These doors are identical front and back but in mirror form, giving you the option to hang the door with the glazing on the left or right. Sizes The door is 44mm thick and made in one standard size (1981 x 838 x 44mm). If you need a different size, we make these to order as a bespoke door; just contact our sales team and they'll talk through your requirements. Finishing & Care Made from solid oak, these doors are best fitted in a sheltered spot, under a porch or canopy, rather than in areas fully exposed to direct rain or hot sun. As they're supplied unfinished, protect yours with a treatment made for external use; we recommend the Impranol range for external doors. Oak Weather Bar We also supply an Oak Weatherbar to match the door, which will be required should the door be "open to the elements". Sold separately, as not everyone will need one, for example if your door is situated within an enclosed porch. Click here for Oak Weatherbars. Our external doors must be treated before being hung, retreated every six months and kept dry at all times through the use of a canopy or similar. For full guidelines, please visit our External Door Protection Page. Key Product Information 100% prime A-grade solid oak: the highest grade of oak, solid throughout (not veneer).
