This is a limited-edition chapbook of entries of my Observations blog, which was a daily list blog where I shared something I experienced out in the world every day. Strands of lam pshade fiber dancing in the air-conditioner wind. Dump truck drivers eating ice cream on the job. Fathers and sons riding hoverboards. A tiny hairless chihuahua whose penis was so big it had trouble walking. (Sad.) Anything that surprised me and made me feel like the world is a bizarre and interesting place ended up on the blog. And the cream of the crop is in this book. Each week is paired with a risograph illustration from designer Lauren Gallagher that reflects—through a mix of Lauren’s astuteness and the Rorschach effect—the stories it accompanies. Printed at For the Birds Trapped in Airports in Los Angeles. Each of the 250 copies is signed by me. Something happens when the notes sit next to each other. Connections get drawn, and an unconventional constellation of narratives emerges from the week as a whole. It’s an easy read. You can open it to any page and find something new. Year One is sold out.
