The Optima Joystick is a compact adaptive mouse alternative designed for users who find a conventional computer mouse difficult, tiring or impossible to control. The joystick responds to a very light touch, requiring just 0.5 Newtons of force, so the cursor can be moved accurately with minimal hand, wrist or arm movement. Three interchangeable handles provide different ways to operate the joystick. The acorn handle supports general fingertip or hand control, the T-bar can be gripped, and the large soft foam ball can be pushed using the hand, wrist or forearm. This allows the Optima Joystick to be adapted to the user’s strength, grip and preferred method of movement. Four cursor-speed settings help balance accurate targeting with efficient movement around the screen. Dedicated buttons provide left click, right click and drag lock, while the right-click button can be programmed to perform a double-click instead. This simplifies mouse actions that may be difficult for users with limited dexterity or motor control. Two 3.5mm sockets allow compatible external switches to replace the built-in left- and right-click buttons. The Optima Joystick can also be switched into gaming mode for use with the Xbox Adaptive Controller and other confirmed compatible adaptive gaming interfaces. Its symmetrical, low-profile design can be used with either hand and provides a supportive resting area for the palm. The large base helps the joystick remain stable during use, while its compact footprint makes it suitable for desks, wheelchair trays and other spaces where room is limited.
