The difference is not finish or materials, it is whether the cabinet was designed for a category or for a driver, and how much of the fitting work is already done for you. This page is a Performance Optimized enclosure. The airspace, the cutout and the cabinet height all come from the Arc Audio SW12's own published numbers. A Performance box fits your subwoofer. A Performance Optimized box was built for it. Built Around the Arc Audio SW12 Nothing about this cabinet is generic. The baffle is bored to the SW12's 11 inch cutout, with a 12.5 inch outer diameter to clear, and the internal height is set by its 2.4 inch mounting depth, or 2.23 inches front loaded. That is the shallowest 12 inch mounting depth in the Proline X Down Fire program, shallower than most 8 inch subwoofers, and it is what lets the finished cabinet stand exactly 6 inches tall on a 30 by 15 inch footprint. The SW12 is a dual voice coil driver offered in dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm, rated 400 watts RMS and 800 watts peak. Cone area is 532.97 cm² and the force factor is 23.955 Tm wired in series. For a driver this thin that is a lot of capability. The number that separates it from the SW10 is a 33.1 Hz free air resonance against the 10's 39.3, with Vas nearly triple at 33.44 liters against 12.96. Same mounting depth, same series, but the 12 reaches meaningfully lower. Arc publishes full Thiele-Small data in both series and parallel wiring and the two are effectively identical: Fs 33.1 against 33.0 Hz, Qts 0.624 against 0.616, Vas 33.44 against 33.73 liters. One enclosure serves either wiring choice properly. Net Volume, Not Gross We build this cabinet at 0.806 cubic feet gross, against Arc Audio's published optimum sealed recommendation of 0.8 gross. Net internal airspace after panel thickness, bracing and the driver's own displacement is approximately 0.74 cubic feet. Arc publishes their sealed recommendations as gross rather than net, which is unusual, so both figures are listed in the specifications. True net, not marketing net. Internal volume is calculated from the machined cavity dimensions and the driver's published displacement, not estimated from external dimensions minus wall thickness. That volume produces Qtc 1.007 with Fc at 53.4 Hz and a predicted F3 of 41.9 Hz. Qtc right around unity gives a modest lift at the corner without the exaggerated peak that high Qts shallow drivers produce. A Qts of 0.624 is a healthy, moderate figure, so this driver reaches a usable alignment rather than being forced underdamped by its own parameters. Arc's published range runs 0.65 gross minimum to 1.0 gross maximum, and the optimum is the right place on this driver. Firing down into the floor, the sealed rolloff meets rising cabin gain below 60 Hz. Arc's own documentation notes that cabin gain adds roughly 12 dB per octave below 50 Hz in most vehicles. Down Fire Construction Cut with V-groove and dado joinery on our ShopSabre routers from Langboard Elite 3/4 inch MDF, a dense 48.5 lb/ft³ board with a 200 psi internal bond and 410,000 psi MOE. Every panel joint is a machined interlocking groove that mechanically locks before adhesive is applied, which keeps the cabinet airtight under sustained pressure cycling. Corners are square on Down Fire cabinets. The doubled baffle matters here: an 11 inch cutout in a cabinet only 6 inches tall removes a large share of the structural face. Perimeter cross-bracing and pre-installed polyfill complete the build. Finished dimensions are 30 inches wide by 15 inches deep by 6 inches tall, measured in the down fire position. Double Baffle, Flush Recess The front baffle is 1.5 inches, two bonded 3/4 inch sheets, with the outer layer machined as a flush recess so the driver bolts to the inner layer. That recovers 3/4 inch of internal clearance. Side-Mounted Terminal Cup Proline X ABS and carbon fiber composite cup with stainless hardware and copper ring terminals, pre-wired in 12 gauge OFC. Side mounted so it stays accessible with the baffle facing the floor. Bracing Under An 11 Inch Cutout Perimeter cross-bracing holds the 30 inch span rigid around the opening. The driver lands on 8/32 threaded inserts with stainless machine screws included, so the mounting holes do not wear. Power and Warranty Arc rates the SW12 at 400 watts RMS with 800 watts peak across 532.97 square centimeters of cone. It is dual voice coil in 2 ohm or 4 ohm, and final impedance is set at the driver. Because the series and parallel Thiele-Small figures are effectively identical, the enclosure alignment holds either way; pick your wiring purely on amplifier impedance. The enclosure carries a 1 year limited warranty. Bring your own Arc Audio SW12; the driver is purchased separately. Cut for the Driver, Not the Catalog One driver, one cutout, one volume target.
