Original vintage post-World War Two map poster for Somerset in south west England featuring a colourful design by Ernest Costain Clegg (1876-1954) of the county surrounded by illustrations of notable landmarks and popular tourist locations including the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, the City of Wells, Cheddar Gorge, Abbot's Kitchen Glastonbury, Dunster Castle, Montacute House, ships and boats on the Bristol Channel and Bridgewater Bay with insignias and coats of arms as well as notable historical figures from the region including Robert Blake (1598-1657), John Locke (1632-1704) and Henry Fielding (1707-1754), British farms, agriculture and food including barley, Devon cattle, Exmoor sheep, green peas, dairy, vegetables, flax, cider, cheese and strawberries, and a quote by Winston Churchill dated 13 May 1940 in the right corner - I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. You ask what is our policy? I will say: It is to wage war by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us - with roads, castles, trees, rivers and a Scale of Miles at the bottom.
