What pressure lubrication actually changes Splash lubrication works by letting the connecting rods dip into a sump and fling oil onto everything above. It is cheap and perfectly adequate for a machine that runs for ten minutes and then sits. What it does not do well is feed a bearing that is running continuously and hot, because supply depends on speed, oil level and luck. A pressurised system removes the luck: the gerotor pump delivers a measured flow at a measured pressure however long the machine has been running, and because the oil travels a circuit rather than being thrown about, it can be filtered.
