Rum Ether (Ethyl Oxyhydrate) has been discontinued but fortunately Firmenich makes this base which is excellent in its own right and can be used as a one for one replacer. On first sniff you can have no doubt that this is a boozy material, with caramellic and buttery notes. It also has a distinct fruity quality: primarily pineapple but also some shades of banana — fresh, not overly ripened. It is also aldehydic. While this is an obvious pick for alcoholic top notes, it works extremely well with labdanum (particularly the light variety or as a sweetener for the more volatile Cistus Oil). It would be a wonderful addition to our demo formula for Bertrand Duchaufour's Or du Serail (for Naomi Goodsir) which we've added below for completeness sake. It's aldehydic facets make it a great partner to Aldalia (Chuit Naef & Cie) or Jean Carles' classic Aldehone.
