Description The Grove - Thermal Imaging Camera MLX90641 BCB is a compact thermal imaging module built around a 16x12 pixel MLX90641 infrared array. It provides a 55°×35° field of view, fully calibrated sensing, and non-contact temperature measurement from -40℃ to 300℃ for embedded thermal monitoring, IoT prototypes, and industrial inspection projects. The module communicates through the I2C Grove interface and is designed for accurate thermal data acquisition with low integration effort. According to the official page, center-area accuracy is about ±1℃ and average accuracy is about ±1.5℃. Note For Grove users, especially beginners, Seeed provides operation guidance. Please read the Grove module instructions before using the product. Features 16x12 pixel MLX90641 infrared thermal sensor array 55°×35° field of view for capturing a wider scene -40℃ to 300℃ temperature measurement range I2C Grove interface for microcontroller integration Fully calibrated IR array with approximately 18 mA operating current How Thermal Imaging Works Objects naturally emit infrared radiation. This module detects small temperature differences in the scene and converts the data into a low-resolution thermal image, making heat patterns visible for non-contact measurement and monitoring. MCU Requirements This thermal camera requires a microcontroller with more than 20,000 bytes of RAM. Basic boards such as Arduino UNO are not suitable because of limited processing capability. Use Arch Mix or a similarly capable MCU when processing the thermal array data. Applications High-precision non-contact temperature measurement Intrusion and movement detection systems Temperature sensing for residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC systems Industrial temperature control for moving parts Visual infrared thermometer projects Specifications Resolution 16x12 pixels Field of View 55°×35° Temperature Measurement Range -40℃ to 300℃ Refresh Rate 0.5 Hz to 64 Hz Interface I2C Grove Operating Voltage 3.3 V to 5 V Operating Current Approx. 18 mA Part List 1 x Grove - Thermal Imaging Camera - MLX90641 BCB 16x12 IR Array with 55° FOV Resources MLX90641 Datasheet (Melexis PDF) MLX90641 Visualization Package Grove Thermal Imaging Camera MLX90641 BCB Product Change Notice Grove Module Usage Instructions FAQ Can this module be used with Arduino UNO? No. The official page notes that this thermal camera needs more than 20,000 bytes of RAM, so Arduino UNO does not have enough processing resources for it. What field of view does this version use? This BCB version uses a 55°×35° field of view. What interface does the camera use? It uses the I2C Grove interface for communication with a compatible microcontroller.
