The 'grommet' is an attachment that allows for this rod to protrude through the external face of the SPD Voyager without adding unnecessary bulk to the case. You'll see in the some of the photos that there is a metal stem (the mounting plate) protruding from the SPD Voyager and the "Grommet" is the component on the SPD Voyager that enables this to pass through the outer layer of the soft case.
