This spring ring secures the rubber dust boot to the track rod end on Land Rover steering systems, retaining the grease-packed boot in position and preventing ingress of dirt, wate r, and road debris. Without a correctly fitted retaining ring, the boot can displace or collapse, accelerating wear to the track rod end ball joint and leading to play in the steering. Replacement is typically required whenever the track rod end boot is disturbed or renewed.
