Frequently Asked Questions Q: Does this headstall need a lot of upkeep to stay soft? Not at all. Because the Weaver Leather STS Split Ear Headstall is made from oiled harness leather and pre-treated with saddle butter, it naturally resists drying out and cracking. A quick wipe-down after sweaty rides and occasional leather conditioner will keep it supple for the long haul. It's built to handle the elements without constant fussing. Q: What size horses does this headstall fit? This headstall adjusts to fit most standard horses, typically ranging from 36 to 41 inches measured bit-to-bit over the poll. The split ear design works best on horses with a well-defined poll that holds the ear loop securely in place. If your horse has a flatter poll, a browband-style headstall may be a better fit. Q: Will the kangaroo lacing hold up to heavy roping use? Yes. Kangaroo leather is lighter and stronger than traditional cowhide lacing, which is why it's used in high-stress areas of working tack. Combined with the water-tie bit ends, this headstall offers the traditional security ropers and ranch riders depend on. Stran T. Smith designed this piece for real work, not just show ring appearances.
