TAYBERRY: Good crops of early reddish-purple berries from mid summer. Reasonably vigorous, almost thornless branches require permanent support. Fruit is excellent for dessert, freezing and fruity jams. Self-fertile. AWARD-WINNING FRUIT: This plant/cultivar has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit because it has proved to be reliable in appropriate conditions and a good performing. SUITABLE FOR: Open sunny or lightly shaded spot. Prefers a moist but well-drained fertile soil. SPACING: Plant 1.5m (5ft) apart in rows 1.5m (5ft) apart. PLANTING: Soak the rootball before planting. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the rootball or pot. Mix an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established. CARE: Fruit is produced on previous year's shoots. Tie in new shoots - these will flower and fruit in the second year. Cut away all fruiting canes after harvest and replace them with new vigorous shoots and the most vigorous of the older ones. Cut back weak and damaged shoots in Autumn. In Spring apply a general fertiliser.
