The Skipper Table Light is one of Tom Raffield’s more familiar designs, part of a wider Skipper range that focuses on curved timber forms and a softer approach to lighting. It feels calm in a room, but it still has enough character to notice when you walk past it switched on.It’s made up of individual wooden petals shaped and arranged around a central light source, forming an open, rounded structure. The light moves through the timber rather than being contained, so you get a warm glow with broken shadows around it. It comes in ash, oak or walnut, each one shifting the tone of the piece slightly depending on the wood. Nothing about it feels overly sealed or rigid, which is part of what gives it its lighter presence.In use, it tends to sit nicely on a console, desk or side table where you want something that adds a bit of atmosphere without taking over. It’s easy to live with and works just as well in the background during the day as it does lit in the evening.
