The Tsuchi Dome Vase is small, rounded and quietly closed. A soft peaked dome narrows to a single tiny opening at the top, just wide enough for a thin stem or nothing at all. The form is intimate. Held in one hand and full of itself. Place it on a bedside table, the edge of a desk, or grouped with the rest of the Tsuchi family on a shared surface. A single sprig of olive, a length of dried lavender, or empty as a small sculptural punctuation mark. Tsuchi is a family of hand-finished stoneware objects, each formed differently and all finished in the same matte beige glaze. Each piece carries small irregularities in the finish; no two are quite identical. Tsuchi means earth, or clay, in Japanese. The shortest possible answer to the question of what these objects are.
