Z11 (Ambraketal) was initially sold only as part of Firmenich's Fixobois base and so it found early use in fragrances like Chanel No 19. In time the material itself became available as a 10% dilution in IPM owing to its high strength. That is Z11 10 MIP (sometimes simply called Z11 MIP). In recent years a new product emerged which is the so called HD or "high definition" version which is sold as both an 8.5% dilution (Z11 8.5 HD) and pure. It is in that pure crystalline form that it found its way in to the popular fragrance One Million by Paco Rabanne. The two products are very similar but the classic Z11 retains its supremacy in terms of sheer beauty and Firmenich keep the pure form captive. To compare the two in furniture making terms, Z11 8.5 HD is like a steel nail holding a door together — intense and penetrating, while Z11 10 MIP is like a wooden peg or a dovetail joint in an antique armoire. They both do the same job (holding two pieces of timber together) but the second has heritage, prestige and elegance. Z11 10 MIP is the Fraterworks choice for this material as it is simply the most beautiful and far better suited to quality fragrances that rely on purest radiant elegance over intensity and short-lived dazzle. Z11 10 MIP is ambery, woody and dry and has an astonishing trigeminal effect which causes intense psychological pleasure in those who smell it. Firmenich states that Z11 10 MIP diluted further by another 10% can double the power of Ambrox. In other words: 5 Ambrox® Super5 Z11 10 MIP 10% is equal to 10 Ambrox® Super
