Bit lifters may be utilized for different reasons. If a horse is inclined to get its tongue over the bit, the bit lifter can help prevent this by suspending the bit higher in the h orse's mouth without the need to use a tight flash noseband (which may cause resistance). For horses who need to work up into the bit contact, the bit lifter can lighten the contact, enabling light-mouthed horses to have more confidence to work into the contact.
