[About Kurume Kasuri]Kurume Kasuri is a traditional pre-dyed woven fabric produced using a retro-style, belt-driven power loom with twenty connected machines driven by a single motor. The Kurume Kasuri textile mill was established in 1948 and is known as a representative of Japan's traditional pre-dyed textiles. It is characterized by a soft and handwoven-like texture, similar to handwoven fabrics. The weaving process involves numerous manual steps, taking 2 to 4 months and more than 30 processes to complete. The finished fabric undergoes a process of shrinking (approximately 10%) through hot water treatment and natural drying.[Weaving Characteristics]The term "stripe" ("shima" in Japanese) originally referred to cotton fabric with vertical stripes imported from foreign countries through Nanban trade.
