Maurice, a Japanese manufacturer with a long history, has a wide range of fans, from legendary musicians to amateurs. Despite their meticulous craftsmanship, they boast incredible cost performance and offer a wide lineup that covers everything from folk style to fingerstyle. Morris, a long-established Japanese brand that dominated the folk music boom of the 1970s, also played a key role in the 2000s by developing and releasing a guitar perfectly suited to the new movement known as "fingerstyle guitar," and in spreading and popularizing that style within Japan. Introduced in 2001 as a dedicated fingerstyle guitar, the S series gained popularity for its exceptional playability and outstanding sound, and has undergone numerous improvements since then. It remains a beloved "masterpiece of fingerstyle guitars," enjoyed by everyone from beginners to veterans, and continues to be popular even more than 20 years later. This "S-101III SPZ/LTD" is a rare, limited-edition model, with only 12 units produced in total for Sound Messe in Osaka 2025. This special edition is an evolution of the third generation of the S-101, a particularly popular model in the S series known for its versatility and ease of use, and is even better suited to fingerstyle playing. This guitar features the now-classic Grand Auditorium/Deep Round body, with a solid Engelmann spruce top, solid Indian rosewood sides and back, a mahogany neck, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. Notable specifications include the "Engelmann spruce top," "through bridge," and "bone nut and saddle." As a result, while retaining the rich low end and clear, forward-projecting midrange that are characteristic of the 101, it produces a solid volume even with a softer touch, making it even more suited to fingerstyle playing. Furthermore, the headstock is crafted from precious woods such as rosewood, mahogany, and jacaranda, and each one is uniquely designed by skilled craftsmen at the Morris factory, with random designs applied to each instrument.
