Interleukin-30 (IL-30) is a chain of the heterodimeric cytokine interleukin-27 (IL-27), and is therefore also known as IL-27 p28, with a predicted molecular weight of 24.9 kDa. As the p28 subunit, IL-30 associates with EBI3 to form IL-27. Also referred to as IL-27 p28 or IL-27A, it is considered an alternative to IL-27. It was initially thought to be an IL-12-like cytokine capable of promoting Th1 immunity, as it induces the expression of T-bet and IL-12Rβ2 by activating STAT1 during Th1 differentiation.
