This version of our blanket trunk is finished in a lovely deep red lacquer a colour favoured by the Chinese. The inside is finished in a dark wood stain and has a metal stay to prevent the lid from falling shut. Made from solid reclaimed elm wood, produced using proper dovetail joints, our wooden blanket trunks are great for storing everything from clothes and bedding to childrens toys and games. The classic oriental style circular brass lock plate comes with the pin and red tassel which are included with all of our trunks. Used for all kinds of storage in Chinese homes, wooden trunks and chests were extremely common and were often stacked in twos or threes in bedrooms or placed on top of cabinets to store winter clothes or bedding. Camphor was a popular wood as it acts as a natural insect repellent but elm was also favoured.
