A graphic T-shirt about why losing a hundred dollars hurts more than winning a hundred dollars feels good. Loss Aversion shows the bias visually: two identical triangles, two very different shadows. Loud enough for the front row, smart enough for the boardroom. From the Artist’s Desk I wanted to demonstrate visually how our perceptions and biases can have real-world effects. Here, a pair of glasses represents the lens through which we see the world, casting light over two identical triangles, one pointing up (gain), the other down (loss). Though the triangles are the same, the viewer’s perception distorts their impact, disproportionately stretching the shadow of the loss. A falling tear reinforces this imbalance, amplifying the inflated emotional gravity we attach to losses over equivalent gains.
