This course is designed for anyone who would like to explore tufting in greater depth — from beginners who want to move beyond the basics to artists, designers, and textile professionals interested in incorporating tufting into their own creative practice. In this Intermediate course, you will: Work with cut pile, loop pile, and high-pile tufting techniques. Explore hand tufting tools and manual techniques. Experiment not only with standard tufting yarn, but also with yarns of different thicknesses, textures, and material qualities. Combine different pile heights, yarns, textures, and techniques within one piece. Develop greater control over lines, shapes, details, and surface structures. Rather than creating a conventional rug, you will design a custom-shaped textile piece and explore more sculptural forms, layered textures, and material combinations. The focus is not simply on completing a finished object, but on understanding how different tools, yarns, and techniques can be combined intentionally — giving you a stronger technical foundation for more ambitious or independent projects. This four-hour workshop includes: Introduction to different electric tufting guns and tools Cut pile, loop pile, and high-pile techniques Manual tufting methods Experimentation with different yarn thicknesses and textures Professional backing and finishing of your piece Finished works can usually be collected within 3–4 weeks. Before the workshop: You can submit your own design for approval. Once approved, we can transfer it onto the tufting cloth for you. Freehand work is also possible if you prefer to develop your design directly on the fabric. Why 40 × 30 cm? Working with hand tools, different yarns, pile heights, and more complex techniques takes considerably more time than standard cut-pile tufting. The compact format allows you to focus on detail, material experimentation, and a high-quality finish within four hours.
