Skinner Knife This knife is crafted from carbon steel. The style has a strong curve that creates a pronounced "belly", while the point of the blade sits far above centre. With these two properties, the edge of the blade has almost full-length contact with the cutting surface, while the point does not directly touch it. The blade is satin finished showing the bevels of the blade and showcasing the lines of the knife while reducing its reflective glare. The timber handle is Black Maire. Black Maire is hard (probably New Zealand’s hardest wood), heavy and strong, and is extremely durable. It was used by early European settlers as a substitute for lignum vitae for bearings and pulley blocks. Maori used it for digging sticks, wedges for splitting wood, canoe paddles and bailers, beaters and mallets. This knife does not come with a sheath. However, a custom leather sheath may be purchased separately from our online store.
