Rustic grade keeps the knots, shakes and natural colour movement that give the door its character, and nail holes are visible in the face, which you can fill if you prefer. Because every board is different, no two doors are exactly alike, and that natural variation is part of the appeal in an older or rural property.The boards are finished with a bead and butt profile, where a rounded bead runs along each joint for a softer, traditional line. It is worked into the same solid oak boards, so it adds character to the face without changing how the door is built.The door is supplied unglazed, so you can choose your own glass to suit the room, whether clear, patterned or frosted. The beading is supplied loose on one side, ready to cut to size and fit once your glass is in place. That leaves the look of the opening entirely up to you.Being solid oak all the way through, rather than an oak face over a manufactured core, the door can be sanded back and re-treated over its life, and trimmed a little to fit an opening. Oak moves slightly with the seasons, so leave a small gap for expansion when fitting.A barn door like this suits traditional T-hinges, the long strap hinge that runs across the ledges and matches the plain board face.
