This Iai practice sword is manufactured in Gifu Prefecture which has historically been known as the workplace of the Japanese swords. The blade is handmade with the traditional technique of sand casting. This is a replica sword. It is not real and cannot cut. Also, as it is made of alloy, it cannot be sharpened by yourself. Cautions for Use Material LimitationsThe blade material differs from real swords and cannot be sharpened. Regarding Bizen OsafuneThis sword was crafted by the Bizen Osafune school, one of the most renowned sword-making schools from Okayama Prefecture, known for its strong reputation and influence. In the 16th century, they achieved great success as the first to establish large-scale production of Japanese swords. Many of these blades were even exported to China at the time, bringing significant profits. Despite their expansion, the Bizen Osafune school never compromised on quality, and they came to be regarded as a kind of “sword-making company” of the 16th century. However, their workshop was eventually destroyed by floods and a tsunami, bringing an end to their prosperity. The hamon (temper line) of this blade features an elegant double-wave pattern, which continues beautifully into the bōshi (the curve of the temper line at the tip of the blade). This sword should be used not only for Iai practice but also for decoration in your living.
