The Alu Bench by Valerie Objects takes the same clear language as the earlier chair and stretches it into something more relaxed and social. Designed by Muller Van Severen, it keeps that familiar graphic line but shifts the focus towards shared seating. It first appeared as part of a wider series that has grown steadily since its introduction, and this version feels like a natural extension rather than a departure. Made from coated aluminium, it’s light enough to move around without much effort but holds up well in daily use. The surface is treated with beeswax and finished with a UV protective lacquer, which helps the colour stay consistent over time, even outdoors. The structure is simple and honest, nothing hidden, and the lacquered seat brings just enough contrast to soften the overall feel. It comes in ivory, green, alu and pink, each one giving a slightly different tone to the same form. It works just as easily along a dining table as it does out on a terrace. There’s a certain ease to it, you don’t have to think too hard about where it goes. It’s also a piece we’ve handled regularly, so it’s one we’re confident recommending if you’re after something practical that still has a bit of character.
