Handheld optical refractometers require the user's eye, a light source, and careful scale reading — conditions that vary with operator, lighting, and training. The VEE GEE Scientific MDX-Series Digital Brix Refractometer eliminates all three variables: press READ and a large LCD display shows the result in under 3 seconds, automatically corrected for sample temperature via Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC). No eyepiece, no scale interpolation, no shadowed view. IP65/67 rated for dust-tight and water-jet resistance, the MDX series moves between field and lab without instrument swap. Place 4–5 drops on the sample well, close the prism cover, press READ. Results display alongside temperature in a continuous loop average that smooths out individual droplet variation. Ships with a hard shell protective case, disposable pipette, and AAA battery ready for immediate use. Features and Benefits Large LCD Display - All Data at Once: Brix percentage and sample temperature display simultaneously on a high-contrast LCD — no scale reading, no eyepiece adjustment, no ambient light dependency. Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC): Built-in temperature sensor corrects all readings to 20°C reference automatically — eliminates the calculation step required with non-ATC analog refractometers. IP65/67 Water and Dust Resistance: Rated for dust-tight operation and water-jet exposure — moves from field sampling to production line to lab without instrument swap or protective handling precautions. Continuous Loop Average Reading: The instrument continuously captures and averages multiple readings from a single sample load — smooths droplet variation for more consistent reported values on heterogeneous samples. 4–5 Drop Sample Volume: Small sample volume requirement minimizes sample consumption and allows measurement of limited-volume samples directly from extraction or dilution vessels. Removable Prism Cover and Rubber Grip: The prism cover removes for complete cleaning between samples — prevents carry-over contamination. The rubber grip provides secure handling in wet production environments. Ships Ready to Use: Includes hard shell protective case with foam lining, disposable pipette, one AAA battery, and user manual — calibration required only at initial setup with supplied distilled water. The MDX-102 (48102) measures 0–90% Brix and covers high-sugar samples including concentrated syrups, jams, and confectionery where Brix exceeds 50%. Does this refractometer need calibration?Yes — initial calibration uses distilled or deionized water following the included user manual procedure. The ATC handles temperature variation automatically after calibration; recalibration is recommended when switching between very different sample types or after extended storage. How do I clean the prism between samples?Wipe the prism surface with a lint-free cloth or lens tissue dampened with distilled water between samples. For sticky high-sugar samples, rinse with distilled water first, then dry gently. The prism cover removes fully for thorough cleaning. Is this different from the handheld optical refractometers VEE GEE also sells?Yes. The MDX-Series is fully digital with an LCD display — no eyepiece, no scale reading, and no operator eye required. Handheld optical refractometers (like the VEE GEE STX/SGX series) use a manual eyepiece and require training and consistent light conditions. The MDX delivers faster, more consistent results and is better for high-throughput or field environments. Quality Assurance VEE GEE Scientific MDX-Series refractometers are manufactured to IP65/67 standards with factory-calibrated prism assemblies. Each unit undergoes ATC performance verification and LCD display testing prior to shipment. The hard shell carrying case provides drop protection for field deployment. VEE GEE backs the MDX series with a 1-year warranty.
