DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) concentration, battery acid specific gravity, ethylene glycol coolant strength, and propylene glycol freeze protection are all critical maintenance parameters in industrial and automotive environments — and all are measurable by refractometry. The VEE GEE Scientific MDX-602 and MDX-603 Digital Refractometers bring the same IP65/67-rated, ATC-equipped MDX platform to these industrial chemical applications, replacing dip strips and analog optical instruments with a direct-reading LCD display that shows concentration in seconds. Robust rubber grip and field-hardened construction handles the shop floor and fleet maintenance environments where these measurements are made. The removable prism cover allows complete cleaning between corrosive samples. Includes hard shell case, disposable pipette, and battery. Features and Benefits Industrial Chemical Measurement Scales: MDX-602: DEF/Urea (%), Battery Acid SG, Refractive Index, Temperature. MDX-603: Ethylene Glycol (% v/v), Propylene Glycol (% v/v), Freeze Point (°C/°F), Refractive Index. ATC in Industrial Conditions: Temperature compensation built into every reading — eliminates manual correction for measurements taken on fluids at ambient shop temperature or straight from a vehicle radiator. IP65/67 for Shop Environments: Rated for dust-tight operation and water-jet resistance — handles the industrial shop floor without protective cases or operator care about splash exposure. Removable Prism Cover for Corrosive Samples: The prism assembly removes fully for complete cleaning after exposure to battery acid, glycol, and DEF — prevents carry-over between different chemical samples. Rubber Grip: Secure grip for gloved hands in automotive and industrial maintenance settings. Full Kit Included: Hard shell case, disposable pipette, AAA battery, and manual included. Concentration outside the specification range (32–34%) reduces catalyst efficiency or can cause system fault codes. The MDX-602 measures urea percentage directly, confirming DEF quality before use. Can MDX-603 measure both ethylene glycol and propylene glycol?Yes — MDX-603 has separate scales for both ethylene glycol and propylene glycol coolants. Select the appropriate scale based on which coolant type your system uses. Do not use the ethylene glycol scale for propylene glycol measurements — the refractive indices differ at equivalent concentrations. Is MDX-602 safe to use with battery acid (sulfuric acid solution)?Yes — the MDX prism and cover are resistant to dilute sulfuric acid at battery acid concentrations (SG 1.15–1.30). Clean the prism thoroughly with distilled water immediately after each measurement to prevent corrosion. VEE GEE recommends appropriate PPE when handling battery acid. Quality Assurance VEE GEE Scientific MDX-Series refractometers are manufactured to IP65/67 standards with factory-calibrated prism assemblies. Each unit undergoes ATC performance verification and LCD display testing prior to shipment. The hard shell carrying case provides drop protection for field deployment. VEE GEE backs the MDX series with a 1-year warranty.
